Fewer than 20% of South Africans are able to afford medical aid, which means that in excess of 80% of the population depends on government funding for healthcare. With little to no access to long-term rehabilitation few people are able to make significant recovery after an injury or diagnosis. The sad reality is that many remain confined to their homes, unemployed and with low levels of physical activity.
We are fully committed to making our network of rehabilitative providers available to all South Africans who are disabled regardless of their financial status or limitations. Our Subsidy Progamme makes this possible.
In order to apply, you will need to submit the following documents, along with a completed application form, which is available here:
- A doctor’s report confirming your injury or disorder, along with clearance for moderate to vigorous exercise.
- A one-page motivational letter describing why you need physical rehabilitation and what, ideally, you would like to achieve from the programme.
- An affidavit confirming your financial status or position, accompanied by:
- Your latest payslip and three months’ bank statements. If you’re unemployed, then please include details of the highest earning individual in your immediate family.
- A list of assets of your immediate family (i.e., property, vehicles, etc.) and their respective values.
- The total monthly household income and a list of dependents reliant on this income.
- Patients will receive a maximum of 12 weeks’ rehabilitation, after which a letter needs to be submitted motivating for continued rehabilitation. This process ensures that other potential patients are also given an opportunity to apply to benefit from the programme.
Please submit your completed application form and supporting documents here.
The result of your application, and the cost of your rehabilitation will be decided and communicated to you within 10 working days.
